Halt to illicit commerce of tobacco products
 

40 countries must ratify the Protocol for the elimination of illicit commerce of tobacco products so that it becomes effective.

According to some studies, and on the information supplied by the global customs community, the illicit tobacco market could assume up to a tenth part of cigarettes consumed worldwide.  In many aspects, the illicit commerce of tobacco products is an important reason of concern at a world scale, particularly to that referring to health, law and economy, governance and corruption.  It is necessary that the Protocol is ratified to eliminate the illicit commerce of tobacco products, to answer the financial, legal and sanitary repercussions from the illicit commerce of tobacco products.

Every year, on May 31st, the WHO and its associates celebrate de World No Tobacco Day, with the objective of highlight the risks for health associated with tobacco consumption and promoting the implementation of efficient public policies to reduce said consumption. 

As a result of World No Tobacco Day 2015, we urge the countries to collaborate to put an end to illicit commerce of tobacco products.
In many aspects, the illicit commerce of tobacco products is an important reason of concern at world scale, in particular to that referring to health, law and economy, governance and corruption
